QUOYBRAE Mart, Watten, played host to the 2019 annual Highland Rally recently, hosted by the Caithness District, where members from the Young Farmers clubs within the Highlands competed in many different inclusive competitions offering plenty of opportunities for the members and also a great networking openings for them all.

The Hamilton Auction Mart Trophy is awarded annually to the overall top placed club at the Highland Rally, this years’ winners, for the fifth year running was Bower YFC with 100 points – maximum points. Forss YFC were runners up with 57.5 points and in third was Latheron YFC with 50 points.

Bower won the Nan Howie Silver Salver for most points in baking with 74 points, second was Inver Ross YFC with 71 points and third was Forss YFC with 48 points.

The stockjudging saw members form each of the seven competing clubs taking part. The first placed team winning the Farming News Trophy was Bower C – John Gunn, Gemma Duguid and Don Swanson – with 833 points, in second place was as Bower A – Alistair McCarthy, Angus Brims and Beth Dunnett – with 815 points and in third with 803 points were Latheron B Tamara Sinclair, Rosie Promfret and Gareth Watt.

The best individual was Bower YFC member Gemma Duguid who also scoped the top placed female with a score of 322, second placed individual and first place junior and second place female went to Carrie Hamilton from Inver Ross YFC with 296 points and third overall individual and second place junior went to Alistair McCarthy of Bower YFC with 286 points.

Third place female went to Tamara Sinclair from Latheron YFC with 285 points and third placed junior went to Mac Campbell of Inver Ross YFC with 282 points.

North regional chairman, Gemma Bruce, summed up the day, saying: “It was a successful day and it was great to see members battling it out in each competition, especially in the newly added netball competition. A big thank you to all who were supportive in organising of the event, and special thanks to NFU Mutual Thurso and Dingwall offices for sponsoring the day.”
