GRAMPIAN region of Young Farmer’s clubs recently held the regional elimination of the ‘Scotch Beef Country Cooks’ competition at The Garioch Community Kitchen, Wyness Hall, Inverurie.

Seven teams from clubs around the region were given one hour to cook dishes using a bag of unknown ingredients including quality scotch beef mince without the aid of recipe books in a ‘ready steady cook’ style competition. Teams were judged on all aspects of their cookery skills, including hygiene, technical skill and team work as well as the balance, taste and appearance of the dishes prepared.

Winners Eilidh Davidson and Grace Brown from Strichen JAC, will go on to represent the Grampian Region at The Royal Highland Show. They will be cooking on stage at the QMS stand against the qualifying team from West Region on Friday, June 21, with the successful team going on to the final the following day.

In second place were Avril Black and Vivienne Hensley cooking for the Garioch YFC A team, third were Sam Ewing and Amy Dalgarno from Turriff and District JAC and in fourth place were Lawrence Hensley and Alisdair Prentice in Garioch YFC B team. Also competing were Udny A, Udny B and Mid Deeside.
