SIX TEAMS battled it out to win north region junior speechmaking on Saturday, November 25, with less than a point separating the top three teams. Nudging to in to top position with a total score of 78.2 out of a possible 100 was Sandwick A team with members Amy Neil (chair), Cody Chalmers (opposer) and Joe Sinclair (proposer) discussing the topic ‘On opposite sides of the road’. Narrowly being pipped in to second place was the team from Udny with 78 points and third place was awarded to Forrs Young Farmers Clubs with a score of 77.5.

The same day also played host to the junior quiz, with teams battling it out for two places at the national quiz finals. The winning team representing East Aberdeenshire was Udny JAC with Megan Milne, Ryan Cumming and Lorna Black. Runners up were the team from Orkney District and third place was awarded to the Caithness team from Forss Young Farmers.

The top three speechmaking teams and top two quiz teams will go forward to the National Finals in Gogarburn, Edinburgh on December 7. North chairman Gemma Bruce commented “It was great to see so many juniors taking part in the speechmaking competition at such a high standard and I wish the winning teams well for going on to represent the North Region at the finals.”
