SIR, – As a livestock farmer in the Trossachs living adjacent to a major hotel, I live in trepidation of commercial/professional firework displays next door to celebrate weddings and special events -particularly in the run-up to and during lambing.

These displays can have a serious impact not only on stock but also the local wildlife and have no place in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, given its primary role to protect the environment.

Some years ago, with support of the National Park and the local council, we manage to virtually eliminate the use of Chinese/sky lanterns and their obvious dangers. Now, it is time to address the impact of professional firework displays.

It is primarily the explosive nature of the rockets but, interestingly, it is possible to take the bang out of the firework, which is law in certain European countries.

I urge NFU Scotland to take this issue forward.
