SIR, – So you are now a protected species good for you, but unfortunately this government and its agencies do not seem to know what a protected species is – unless a game keeper or farmer inadvertently kills one.
Then look out as the full weight of the law will be brought down on you the individual. On the other hand, if big business wants to erect wind turbines that their own and government agencies predictions show will undoubtedly kill the specially protected peregrine falcon, then that’s deemed to be ok.
The moral of this story is if you want to live a long and happy beaver's life, don’t build on a river or stream that government or big business wants to build a hydro scheme on, or you will find, sadly, the government's protection is not worth the paper it’s written on!
