SIR, – So the convergence money has been paid at last. Well done ScotGov for returning these funds to Scotland.
But what about those farmers who have lost large areas of region two and three tenanted land so the laird can plant trees? And all funded by the lunatic open-ended subsidy scheme that takes from the poorest and gives to the richest?
So, various dukes and earls all over Scotland will be picking up large convergence cheques on recently evicted farms, while those ex tenants who actually farmed the land in the relevant years will get a big fat zero.
The 2014 ScotGov decision to allow landlords to evict tenants and claim BPS themselves was bad enough, but handing them the convergence cash in addition beggars belief.
