Highland cattle breeders will be appalled – it might even lead them to drink!
Apparently, a breeder in Australia has turned the hairy coo world upside down by successfully managing to breed Highlanders without horns.
Breeder Tim Gow, who first imported them from Scotland (HM The Queen's Balmoral fold in fact) in the 1970s, has even given them a new name. He calls them 'Tufties'. The thought of some of the more robust characters – Alan Prentice comes to mind – leading a Tuftie around the ring at the Royal Highland, doesn't even bear thinking about!
The Raider is duly dumbfoonert by all of this, as to my mind he's bred out the breed's most distinctive feature. Might as well breed Angus cattle with horns now!
