Always check the small print
Sir, – I am writing to make people aware of a potential pitfall with personal accident insurance.
In October, 2018, I broke my leg while calving a cow. My policy covered me and paid out promptly.
The claim was ongoing at the time of renewal and I paid the premium unaware that, after any claim is settled on a personal accident policy, the cover is not automatically renewed.
In my case, no events occurred during the year that I was not covered and the lack of cover only came to light at the next renewal date. Therefore, I would like others to be aware of this policy within personal accident claims so that they do not fall into the same category that I did.
