Sir, re: The Disgruntled Drover's letter in your August 7, issue.
In the 1980s and '90s I was driving a tractor with implements on the roads. On one occasion, I moved into a lay-by to let an HGV pass and the driver gave a smile and wave, as did all HGV drivers.
Car drivers, on the other hand, looked straight in front of them, with no acknowledgement at all!
A few points to remember when following a load of bales:
1, It is cattle feed, part of the food chain and is your job really more important?
2, Would you pay a man overtime to sit in a layby?
3, Be kind to farmers and farm workers – they are an endangered species !
