INDUSTRY stalwart, John Cameron, has been recovering from a series of injuries sustained in a fall from a tree (don't ask!) and told The Scottish Farmer that things were going 'full steam ahead at Balbuthie', his farm in the East Neuk of Fife.

He said: "Greetings from my hospital bed in St Andrews! Many will have heard the saga so I won’t bore you by repeating it, save to say that I will never climb another tree in my life!

"The one comment that has kept me going was from the surgeon at Ninewells who patched me up, when speaking to wife Margaret and stockman Wesley, the following day, he assured them both that I would recover with the words 'he’s a tough old b....r but he will make it!'

There is a lot to recover from – nine broken ribs; three broken vertebrae; a broken sternum and ankle! JC never does things in half measures!

John’s comment from his hospital bed was that Margaret and the two stockmen seemed to get things done much more easily without him. Although 'the boss' is in hospital, things have been carrying on as usual in the Cameron world:

As a member of the QMS Beef and Lamb Advisory Group, Mr Cameron is pictured along with George Milne – QMS board member, delivering a promotion lecture to the staff and patients of St Andrews Cottage Hospital.

Following the opening of the Cameron Visitor Centre, at Balbuthie, the first agricultural meeting to be held there was a meeting of the Luing Cattle Society council. Pictured are the society’s chairman, Neil McGowan and secretary, Natalie Cormack, while looking on is John’s wife Margaret.
