FOLLOWING in his father's footsteps, John Paton, of Gateslack, Durisdeer, was elected as president of the Cheviot Sheep Society at the recent agm.

Taking over the role from George Irving, Mountbenger, John takes on the role some 40 years after his father, Robert, stood president from 1977 to 1979.

Stepping up to the vice-president title was Tom Tennant, Gilmanscleugh, and the council welcomed new members Andrew Reid, Glendearg; Ross Bell, Bloch; and Callum Hume, Sundhope.

Also announced at the agm were the results of the 2017 Flock of the Year competition, where the Douglas family at Catslackburn claimed the top spot with a total of 71 points. In second place was Billy Common's Crossdykes flock with 42 points, followed closely by Blair and Morag Cockburn's Stirkfield flock on 39 points. The Mountbenger flock from George Irving finished fourth with 26 points while the Chatto flock was fifth with 21 points.
