WITH the warm, dry summer weather continuing, there was a good number of entries in both the cattle and sheep sections, as well as increased numbers of spectators at Dalrymple Show, which was again staged at Potterston Farm.

The livestock rings provided a triumphant day for young Jennifer Hyslop, Balluskie, Girvan, who took the champion of champions honours with her well-shown Limousin cross heifer, Sexy and I Know It. Home-bred, this 15-month-old is by the AI sire, Shire Apollo, and is out of a home-bred Charolais-cross cow.

Reserve supreme was the inter-breed sheep champion, a Suffolk shearling ram from Ashley Bothwell, of Smithston Farm, Patna. This big tup was purchased privately in January from Michael McNally, Northern Ireland, and stood second in his class at the Highland last month.

Following the Suffolk, the Blackface champion from David Morrison, Dalwyne, Barr, scooped the runner-up sash in the busy sheep lines. This was the gimmer Adele, a £52,000 Crossflatt daughter, christened after Mr Morrison’s favourite singer.

The equivalent amongst the cattle was presented to Morris Wylie’s beef cow and calf leader, a Limousin cross with autumn-born calf at foot from Skeldon Drive, Dalrymple.
