BOASTING one of the largest dairy sections in Scotland at a one-day event, Stranraer continued the summer’s show season on its staple day of Wednesday, last week, and with it came a heat-wave that made the show a great success.
Taking the lead in that dairy section was Ayrshire’s Robbie and Margo Scott, of Shacklehill, Mauchline, with their Holstein, Clauchlands Outbound Blackbird, which is classified EX94. She managed to rise to the top out of the four sections of dairy cattle and take home that all important red, white, and blue rosette.
Over in the beef cattle lines, the main championship went to young Amy Vance, of Bridgehouse Farm, Whithorn, with Too Glam To Give A Damn, a 15-month-old Limousin heifer.
The McMillans, of Carse of Clary, Newton Stewart, worked their way to the top in the Beltex lines and were eventually crowned inter-breed sheep champion. That was with a gimmer by Muirton Armani, out of a home-bred dam by Clary Supersonic.
Another Ayrshire trophy raider was Charlotte Young, of Hall Farm, Ayr, who was triumphant in the Clydesdale section, that was with Clerkington Cassandra.
Tarff Valley Agricultural Supplies presented two RHASS long-service awards at the show. They were given to Ronnie Laverie, who has been at the company’s Glenluce store for 30 years, and John ‘Jakey’ Bell, who has been at the Castle Kennedy branch for 40 years.
