LIVESTOCK producers from Orkney's West Mainland were out in force at their local Dounby Show, last week, where a bumper line-up of cattle, sheep and horses were paraded to a large crowd of spectators from across the island and further afield.

Lifting the inter-breed beef title was an 18-month-old Limousin cross bullock from well-known commercial cattle showman Liam Muir, Upper Onston, Stenness. The home-bred stot named Dennis the Menace is by Goldies Ipad, out of a Limousin cross British Blue cow.

Mr Muir also scooped the reserve honours in the cross-bred coloured section with Beryl the Peril, a home-bred December 2017-born heifer by Millgate Legend, while the Wood family's home-bred February-born heifer calf, Dua Lipa from Garson Farms, Sandwick, stood champion. Over in the sheep lines, Beltex breeder Raymond Flaws who runs his 25-ewe flock alongside 65 Aberdeen-Angus cross cows at Nisthouse, Evie, picked up his first ever supreme title at Dounby with Woodwick Chino, a home-bred shearling tup. He is by Airyolland Avicii, bred out of an Airyolland Wee Jimmy ewe and is destined for Carlisle later this month.

Reserve to Raymond's Beltex was Elsie Wishart's one and only Cheviot ewe from New Bigging, Harray. This two-crop home-bred ewe is by Cairnside Northern Light and out of a home-bred ewe.

A seven-year-old Shetland brood mare from the Millquoy Shetland Pony Stud at Stenness, took the overall horse.
