GLENDALE Show played host to the English National show of North Country Cheviots, where the Allen family won both the park and hill sections with home-bred gimmers.

Heading up the hill entry, as judged by Hugh Wilson of the Newbank flock, was a daughter of a home-bred ram that goes back to a Sorbietrees sire from the family's Stouphill flock. With the reserve ticket at the show going to a ewe from Willie and Jimmy Thomson, Hownam Grange, it was Alan Hutcheon who picked up the reserve National ticket with a home-bred shearling tup. This lad is by the home-bred Hartside Hill Trouble that sold to Hethpool for £1200 at Lockerbie last year.

The Thomsons also led the park entry with a one-crop ewe by Wandylees Scrumpy Jack that went on to stand sheep inter-breed winner and champion of champions. But having entered from north of the Border, it was the reserve that stepped up to win the English National which was judged by Melfyn Williams, Pengroes. That was a gimmer from Billy and Kate, daughter Ruth and son Dallas' Humbleheugh flock in the shape of a daughter of the 2016 Royal Highland inter-breed winner, Synton Ringmaster. Reserve here was another from the Allens, a shearling ram by Philiphaugh Renaissance that is their pen leader at Lockerbie.
