The Clydesdale foal show season kicked of last Saturday at Kilmarnock and saw the supreme championship head across the water to Northern Ireland with Geoffrey and Lesley Tanner, Macosquin, Coleraine, who took the top honours with their May-born colt foal, Downhill Archie.

Winner of the junior colt class and the best-bred award, Archie is by Glebeview Sir Charles and out of the Doura High Spirit-sired mare, Downhill Princess Anne. He was on his first show outing and was sold after the show to Charlotte Young.

Ron and Pete Black, Collessie, Cupar, brought out Harry Emerson's junior filly, Lutterington Butterfly, to take the reserve supreme title and filly foal championship. This May-born daughter of Collessie New Approach is out of Coachmills Lady Helen, a Collessie Whinhill President-sired mare.

Taking both the reserve colt and reserve filly foal titles was Charlotte Young, Hall Farm, Ayr. Her reserve colt was Doura Navigator, a senior colt which was bred in Northern Ireland by Victor and Raymond Scott. He is a full brother to last year’s dominator of the foal shows and Cawdor Cup winner, Doura Magic Touch, being by Glebeview Sir Charles and out of the Carnaff Ambassador-sired mare, Ballinrees Lady Jane.

Charlotte’s reserve filly foal was Doura Dynamite, a daughter of Doura Aird Ambition out of Crossmakeevers Avril. Dynamite was foal champion at Aberdeen back in August.

The senior championship went to the home-bred two-year-old filly, Caperhill Cleo, from David McGill, Alloway. Cleo is by Dillars Top Gun and out of Dillars Ideal daughter, Caperhill Whitney.

Auchengree Bethany took the reserve senior championship for Matt Burks and Jacqueline Pettigrew, Stepps, Glasgow. Another by Top Gun, this home-bred yearling filly is out of the Glebeview Sir Charles-sired mare, Glebeview Emma.
