THE RSPB'S beef herd on Islay at Aoradh has been named the best herd overall in the annual Islay herds competitions against 17 others.

The winning herd – as judged by Terence Glen – also produced the best team of cows and the first prize team of spring-born calves, which were deemed the best overall team of calves.

Individual autumn calf – 1, Ardnave.

Individual spring calf – 1 and best overall calf, Knocklearach (L Morris with Midnight); 2, Cruach; 3, Auchnaglach.

Team of autumn-born calves – 1, Ardnave.

Team of spring-born calves – 1 and best overall team of calves, Aoradh; 2, Auchnaglach; 3, Ballymeanach.

Highland herd – 1, Kinnabus (D Laing); 2, Easter Ellister.
