RICHARD and Carol Rettie, are never far away from the top tickets and last Saturday was no exception, when their 13-month-old heifer, Retties Pam T420, won the supreme championship in the Aberdeen-Angus line-up and went on to stand native senior champion.
Having been second at the breed’s summer national show and third at the winter national show, this Deveron Leggat daughter is bred from a previous Retties Pam, which is a daughter of the 21,000gns Halbeath Pam.
Matthew Currie’s Kingholm herd, from Skewbridge, Mouswald, Dumfries, produced the reserve overall senior champion in Kingholm Real Deal, an August, 2017-born bull by Rawburn Boss Hogg, out of Weeton Rosebud M349.
The junior championship went to first time exhibitor and relatively new breeder, David Raeburn, who runs 35 Aberdeen-Angus females at Burnside of Tulloes, Letham, Angus. This was Tulloes Pride, a 10-month-old heifer calf by the privately purchased, Blelack Black Jock. Having later scooped the native junior title, Pride is the first calf bred from Jerusalem Pride, which was bought along with 14 others females in 2015.
Nairnshire breeder, David Walker, from Easter Galcantray, Cawdor, achieved a personal best here when his April, 2018-born bull calf, Galcantray Duke, stood runner up in the juniors. Brought out by head stockman, Duncan McLaren and Darren Milne, he is by the 6000gns Gretnahouse Blackrod and out of Galcantray Duchess. Duke was second in his class at the Agri-Expo.
