Despite the forecast, there was a dry day for a strong show of livestock at Stirling Show, where Stephanie Dick took top honours for the third week in succession in the cattle, whilst Greg and Hazel Laughton topped the sheep section.

Judge Bert Taylor, Kirriemuir gave the beef inter-breed this year to Stephanie Dick, Westerton, Cowie, with a Limousin cow and calf. Stephick Mistique and calf Stephick Princeton won their third title having also taken the beef inter-breed at Gargunnock and Drymen. Mistique is sired by Rathconville Eugene out of Ronick Voivi.

In the sheep lines it was Greg and Hazel Laughton, East Shawtonhill, that led with a Texel ewe lamb. This was only her second outing after winning her class at Lesmahagow, where the Texel National was held this year. The ewe lamb is sired by Douganhill Young Gun and is out of a Drumcullen ewe.

Johnny Adamson, Easter Glentore, led the way in the Clydesdales with a five-year-old mare, Barlauchlan Linda, bred from Barlauchlan Charm and sired by Arradoul Balvenie. Also Stirling champion last year, when she was also champion of champions at Newmilns.

Breeders from all over Scotland gathered for the National show of Zwartbles which saw a strong show where Faye Wilkie, Whitestone Farm, Aberdeenshire took champion with a two-year-old ewe.

Glencloy Elegant is sired by Glencloy Desperado and is out of Whiteport Brenda. This was her first championship and is set to take on the Royal Highland.

LEADING awards

Aberdeen-Angus (Judge: M Wattie, Mains of Tonley, Alford, Aberdeenshire). Champion – R Hassell and R Wyllie, Brailes Livestock, c/o R and C Rettie, Methven, with a 14-month-old bull. Schivas Methlick boy is sired by Gretnahouse Exocet and is out of Schivas Miss Betty. Reserve – S Dick, Westerton, Stirling, with Crew Destiny, by Hallington Evo, out of Crew Dakota. The 14-month-old heifer was reserve at both Drymen and Gargunnock. Bull, junior heifer – Brailes Livestock. Senior heifer – S Dick.

Charolais (Judge: M Milne, Kennieshillock, Lhanbryde, Elgin). Champion – R Hassell and R Wyllie with the two-year-old heifer, Bassett Nadia, sired by Harestone Domino. She was previously first in her class at the Royal Highland and is set to go back again this year. Reserve – A Drysdale, Middle Drimmie, Blairgowrie, with Glenericht Hollywood on his first outing. The seven-year-old bull is sired by Balnuith Valour and is out of Glenericht Bliss. Bull –A Drysdale. Heifer in calf – Brailes Livestock. Heifer – A Hornall, Falleninch, Stirling.

Limousin (Judge: R McNee, Over Finlarg, Dundee, Angus). Champion and inter-breed beef champion – S Dick, Westerton, with the three-year-old cow, Stephick Mistique shown with calf, Stephick Princeton at foot. Mistique is sired by Rathconville Eugene, out of Ronick Voivi and stood overall champion at Drymen and beef inter-breed at Gargunnock. Reserve – A Weir, Castlecary Mill, Stirling, with a 11-month-old heifer. Castlemill Oasis is sired by Derrygullinane Kingbull and it's dam is Burnbank Inca. Junior bull – R and N Dick, Mains of Throsk, Stirling. Senior bull – A Gammie, Laurencekirk. Cow, calf – S Dick. Senior heifer, Intermediate heifer – D McBeath and SJ Jessop. Junior heifer – A Weir.

Shorthorn (Judge: M Wattie). Champion – T McMillan, Eskechraggan, Bute, with 24-month-old heifer, Towbridge Tessa Linzi, by Tamhorn Glen, out of Knockenjig Tessa. Reserve – A Jackson, Woodyett, Lanark, with the yearling heifer, Headlind Foxglove Tanzy Missy, by Tofts Atlas and out of Roadway Foxglove Tanzy. She was first at the Beef Expo. Bull – Doldy Farms, Glenisla. Cow, intermediate heifer, junior heifer, pair – A Jackson. Senior heifer – T McMillan.

British Blue (Judge: M Milne). Champion and reserve – S and B Comrie, Stonebyres, Lanark. Supreme was Stonebyres Navigator, a 16-month-old bull by Kelowna Jimbo, out of Stonebyres Gem. He also won his class at Lesmahagow. Standing reserve for the family was Stonebyres Mona Lisa, an 18-month-old heifer by Kersey Jeronimo, out of Stonebyres Jill. Both are set for the Highland. All classes – S and B Comrie.

Simmental (Judge: M Milne). Champion – R McCulloch, Overhill House, Armadale with a 17-month-old heifer. Overhill House Icemaidden is by Curaheen Drifter, which was inter-breed champion here last year. Her dam is Raceview Eurka Velvet. Reserve – JC McLaren, Dargill, Crieff, with Dargill JJ, an 18-month-old bull by Kilbride Farm Double Action, out of Dargill Cassie. Bull, junior heifer – JC McLaren. Senior heifer – R McCulloch.

Hereford (Judge: M Wattie). Champion – G and S Harvey, Balfron, with Harvey Bros 1 Crocus Rose, a 14-month-old heifer, by Normanton 1 Laertes, out of a Harvey Bros 1Crocus Enone. She was previously champion at both Drymen and Gargunnock. Reserve – G and S Harvey's 13-month-old heifer, Harvey Bros 1 Crocus RS, also by Normanton 1 Laertes but out of Harvey Bros 1 Crocus L4. All classes – G and S Harvey.

Highland (Judge: E Mackay, Killearn). Champion – D Logan, Blairlogan, Stirling with a two-year-old heifer. Ban-i-Arla Maragith of Blairlogan is sired by Logan of Muirgarigh and is out of Ban-i-arla Morag 4. She was champion at both Dalry and Drymen, and reserve at Beith. Reserve – S and R Hunter, Barnhill, Allanton, with Banarach 2 of Cailaich, a yearling heifer by Neili Kirkibost of Ardbhan, out of Robina 11 of Cailaich. Bull – A Prentice. Cow with calf, yearling heifer, calf, pair – S and R Hunter. Three-year-old heifer, two-year-old heifer – D Logan.

Cross cattle (Judge: S Hunter, Wedderburn, Glens of Foudland, Huntly). Champion – S and L Bett, Newmills, with Queen Bee, a yearling heifer by the Irish Limousin sire Derry Guilen Leing, out of a Limousin cross British Blue cow. She has previously been champion at Ayr, Drymen and Gargunnock shows. Reserve – S Dunn, Willowbank, Stirling, with Haggis Bomb, a Limousin cross bullock bought from J and S Baillie, Orkney. Champion at Lesmahagow and reserve at Gargunnock, he is destined for the Royal Highland. Bullock sired by Charolais, calf – J McLaren, Murrayshall, Stirling. Bullock by any other continental – S Dunn. Heifer – S and L Bett.

AOB beef (Judge: S Hunter). Champion and reserve inter-breed – R and A Crockett, Deanfoot, Hawick, with a two-year-old Salers heifer. Bacardi Miss Moneypenny is sired by Gulliver and is out of Cleuchhead Dahlia. She was inter-breed champion at Northumberland this year. Reserve – R and A Crockett's five-year-old cow, Bacardi Keisha, shown with six-month-old bull calf, Bacardi Oscar. Keisha is also by Gulliver but out of Cleuchhead Delilah, whilst the calf is by Seawell Kikmarh. Bull – Rednock Estate, Port of Menteith. Heifer, cow with calf – R and A Crockett.

Blackface (Judge: B Gilchrist, Crimp Cramp, Crawford). Champion – W and E Bennie, Merkins, Gartocharn, with a four-year-old ewe, by £5500 Dalwyne out of a home-bred ewe. Reserve – D Willison, Craigend, Fintry, with a tup lamb, by a home-bred son of a £58,000 Auldhouseburn out of a Nunnerie ewe. Two-year-old ram, two-year-old ewe, gimmer, ewe lamb – W and E Bennie. One-year-old ram – Drimsynie Estate, Lochgoilhead. Ram lamb – D Willison.

Bluefaced Leicester (Judge: D Fleming, Nisbet, Coulter). Champion – A and J MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth, with an ET-bred ewe lamb by the L12 Blarnavaid, out of an H4 Drimsynie ewe. Reserve – A and J MacGregor, Allanfauld, with an ET tup lamb bred the same way as the champion. Ram, ram lamb, ewe lamb – A and J MacGregor. Ewe, gimmer – Drimsynie Estate.

Suffolk (Judge: J Gilmour, Humeston, Maybole). Champion – R Bryce, Chalmerston, Stirling, with a four-crop ewe, by Cairnorrie Olympic Bolt, out of a ewe by Cairnorrie Campbell. She stood champion at both Drymen and Gargunnock. Reserve – R Bryce with a gimmer, a daughter of the champion which was reserve at Gargunnock. All classes – R Bryce.

Texel (Judge: A Wight, Midlock, Crawford). Champion – G and H Laughton, East Shawtonhill, with a ewe lamb by Douganhill Young Gun, out of a Drumcullen ewe. This was just her second outing after winning her class at the Scottish National Texel show at Lesmahagow. Reserve – A and J MacGregor with a two-crop ewe. She is by Baltier Wellington, out of a Garngour Ultimatum daughter, and was on her first outing. Ram lamb, ewe lamb – G and H Laughton. Ewe – A and J MacGregor. Gimmer – A Smith, Allanview, Dunblane.

AOB continental sheep (Judge: J Gilmour). Champion – A Brisbane, Little Tongue, Stranraer, with a Blue Texel gimmer bought at Carlisle from Christine Williams and Paul Tippetts' Hackney flock. Hackney Covergirl is sired by the £18,000 Joes Alvin, out of an imported dam and took the championship at Ayr. Reserve – A Brisbane's February-born Blue Texel ewe lamb. Auchmantle Dancer is sired by Hackney Your Joking and is out of Whatmore Angel. Ram, ram lamb, gimmer, ewe lamb – A Brisbane. Ewe – D Brown, Sauchans, Doune.

Shetland (Judge: A Wilson, Summerside, Newmains, Wishaw). Champion – D Alcorn, Annavale, Biggar, with the Lesmahagow champion, a three-crop-ewe, bought from M MacFarlane. She is by Rench Mark and is out of Tsunami Delfinium. Reserve – H Hills, Low Whiteside, Lesmahagow, with Hills Kyle a shearling tup on his first outing. AOB native sheep (Judge: J Gilmour). Champion – I and M Davidson, Balnacree, Avonbridge, with a two-crop North Country Cheviot ewe. She is sired by Philipshaugh Reiver and out of Synton Dame. Reserve – P Campbell, Armadale, with a two-shear North Country Cheviot ram by Jedhart Warrior. Ram, ram lamb, ewe lamb – P Campbell. Ewe, gimmer – I and M Davidson.

Scotch Mule (Judge: D Fleming). Champion – H Gray and L Smith, Drumnessie, Banton, with a Mule gimmer bought as part of a pen from Alec Brown, Macqueston. Reserve – A Campbell, Drimsynie, with a pen of three ewe lambs, by Drimsynie Y1 out of home-bred hill ewes. Ewe, pen of three – A Campbell. Gimmer, ewe lamb – D Gray.

Hampshire Down (Judge: Ms H Hindmarch, Millgreen, Co Durham). Champion – J and R McFarlane, West Lecropt, Bridge of Allan, with a gimmer, out of a home-bred ewe and sired by Kelsey Fantastic. Reserve – L Forrest, White and Vevers, Meinfoot, Ecclefechan, with a tup lamb by the home-bred sire, Tripple L Avici and out of Ballycreery ewe. Ram – G Todd, Old Spittal Croft, Portpatrick. Ram lamb – L Forrest. Ewe – B Steel, Powblack, Thornhill. Gimmer, ewe lamb – J and R McFarlane.

Beltex (Judge: R Wood, Kingledores, Broughton). Champion – I Reid, Isle Cottage, Methven, with a one-crop-ewe. Osprey Caprice is sired by Proctors Aerosmith and is out of Aviemore Wilma. The five-year-old yeld mare is sired by Arradoul Balvenie and is out of Barlauchlan Charm. Reserve – J Patterson, Borland, with the champion from Gargunnock, Macfin First Lady, a three-year-old filly, bred from Macfin Crystal Gail and sired by Bratlach Ballintoy. Yeld mare – J Adamson.
