Tom McMillan's Beef Shorthorn heifer is no stranger to the limelight having won championships at Stirling, the Royal Highland and the Great Yorkshire, but the icing on the cake for him was securing the overall champion of champions at his local Bute Show.

Taking him to the top was the 24-month-old Trowbridge Tessa Lindsay, a daughter of Tamhorn Glen out of Knockenjig Tessa, which was bought at the Trowbridge dispersal for £3600 with this heifer at foot.

For the supreme overall – judged on a points basis by the inter-breed section judges – she was up against the light horse, Clydesdale, Highland cattle, sheep and dairy cattle champions. From that mix, the reserve overall selected was the inter-breed sheep champion, a Texel ewe lamb which first won the continental section for Robert Currie, Westlands. She was on her first outing and is by Eden Valley Youthful, out of a dam by Forkins Tantastic.

Clydesdale champion was a yearling filly from Colleen Marshall, Burgess Outon. Her Burgess Outon Miracle is a daughter of Eskechraggan Ernest, out of Rashillhouse Jessica Jean. She stood champion at Dumfries and reserve at Wigtown this year.

The Robertsons' Ballycurrie herd took the inter-breed dairy title home for a second calver, sired by REW Seva and out of a home-bred dam. She last calved in February and is now producing 45 litres per day.
