Charlotte Young’s filly, Glebeview Lady Izzy, took the top honours at the Clydesdale Society’s Winter Fair, at Lanark Agricultural Centre, which attracted one of the largest entries in recent years with 113 horses expected.

Judge, Walt Bedford, from York, tapped out the three-year-old daughter of Glebeview Sir Charles as his champion. She stood supreme at Drymen and West Fife Show earlier this year, and is out of the Doura High Spirit-sired, Glebeview Cassie.

Standing reserve overall was the foal champion, the young filly, Pitmurthly Final Command Piper, from Val Smith, from Redgorton, Perth. This stylish entry was awarded the championship at the North of Fife Foal Show, two weeks previous and was produced by Ronald Brewster, of the Bandirran stud. She is sired by Glenside Barlauchlan Final Command and out of Bandirran Charlotte.

Reserve amongst the foals was Muirton Spirit a colt entry from Perthshire breeders, Thomas Clark and Son, Abbey Farm, Madderty. Previously unshown, he is by Muirton Sabre and out of Croaghmore Roxy.

Standing reserve overall senior was Lutterington Butterfly – a yearling filly from West Auckland-based owner, Harry Emerson and brought out by the Black family, of Newton of Collessie, near Cupar, Fife.

This daughter of Collessie New Approach is bred from last year’s Winter Fair leader and also that of seven other foal shows in Coachmills Lady Helen.

The champion of champions competition held following the Winter Fair championship which included winners from this year’s shows, was judged by Hugh Ramsay, Millisle, Garlieston, Newton Stewart.

Taking the top honours and the prestigious 2019 champion of champions title was Redcastle Pretty Amazing Grace, from Sandy Aitken, from Memus, Angus.

This 11-year-old yeld mare stood champion of champions at the Aberdeen Clydesdale Show in 2017 and 2018, as well as securing the Cawdor Cup at the Royal Highland Show, in 2014.

Sired by Millisle Solway Bay, she is out of Redcastle Miranda and was purchased from John Anderson, Arbroath, as a yearling several years previously.

Securing reserve was the stallion, Doura Magic Touch, from Charlotte Young, Ayr. He is a son of Glebeview Sir Charles and out of the Carnaff Ambassador-sired mare, Ballinrees Lady Jayne.

Bred by Northern Irish breeder, Victor Millen, he was male champion at the National Stallion Show, in 2018 and 2019, as well as the overall championship at this year’s Royal Highland Show.

In the young handlers, Edward Leverett, from Flintshire, took the title, with Heather Keron securing second and James Burks jnr taking third.
