Despite flooding across the country and boats cancelled from the Isle of Bute, Kilpatrick Foal Show went ahead at Ayr Auction market, and entries did not disappoint.

Trotting their way to supreme was the foal champion, Muirton Spirit, from Thomas Clark, Aldie, Perth.

“He caught my eye as he walked into the ring and kept my attention throughout, he is correct in every way and his tall white-haired legs are an extra bonus,” said judge, Drew Simpson, from Ballymoney.

The April, 2019-born colt was bred by Sandra Henderson, in Northern Ireland, and is a son of Muirton Spirit and out of Croaghmore Roxy. This was just his second outing after being reserve foal at the Winter Fair in November.

In the biggest class of the show, the filly born after May, 2019, the winner, Barlauchlan Camilla, went on to take the blue and white sash home for the Douglas Brothers, Barlauchlan Farm, Newton Stewart.

“Another eye-catching animal, she did nothing wrong throughout, impressing me with her walk and trot, and was a similarly styled animal,” said Mr Simpson.

This May-born home-bred foal is sired by Collessie Challenger and out of Barlauchlan Highland Queen, which was champion here five years ago. This was just her first outing, but she should be out through the summer.

In the seniors, top spot went to Caperhill Cleo, from father and son duo, David and Claire McGill. She is sired by Bob Hamilton’s Dillars Top Gun and out of Caperhill Whitney.

This 2016-born mare has been champion three years in succession at Kilmarnock Foal Show as well as reserve at Lanark.

Tapped out as reserve champion amongst the seniors was Alasdair Fletcher’s Fordelhill Wildflower, which was the best two-year-old at the Winter Fair, in November.

This filly is sired by Doura Master Eddie and out of Jubilee Ruby, which was reserve senior champion at the winter fair in 2018. Wildflower was bred by Scot Greenhill, from Fife.
