Having been champion as a heifer, Annick Colleen's Ginger came back to retain her title as a six-year-old cow at Neilston Show.

The stand out show star from the Quarms, of Holehouse, Irvine, was brought out by Andrew Perratt and Matt Gilliland, will be part of the dispersal sale of 90 cows and calves in the herd this September at UA, Stirling. She is a Corskie Callum daughter out of Annick Prudence's Colleen. She was paraded with her heifer January born calf, Annick Ginger's Nutmeg, at foot, which is sired by Wolfstar Gold Digger. The outfit are now destined for Ayr and the Highland shows this summer.

"She is a lovely example of the breed, being milky but also very fleshy, she is a well balanced modern type cow. Her calf is extremely well grown for its age with exceptionally stylish. So as a unit they were absolutely tremendous and a very worthy winner being a well balanced unit," said Simmental judge, Trish Goldie, Newbie Mains, Annan, who joined forces with the other breed judges in a points-based system to select the champion of champions.

Dairy champion was a third calver from Kerr Scott, Kilburn, Neilston. This home-bred five-year-old cow is by Ards Paramount and was on her first outing, still giving 55 litres per day having calved 100 days ago.

In the sheep rings, the inter-breed winner was a two-crop Border Leiecster ewe from Duncan Whyte, Whitelee Gate, Newton Mearns, which also bagged the same award at Beith just a few weeks ago.

This girl caught the eyes of the breed judge, John Gilmour, Humeston, and she's a daughter of Clola Double Deal, which was purchased for £2000 at Lanark, and is out of a home-bred ewe by Fordafourie Festival. She also stood reserve supreme at the breed’s 125th anniversary show and sale, held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, last August.

Picking up the blue and white sash in the sheep was the Blackface champion, a ewe hogg from father and son duo, George and Stuart Kerr, Middleton, Newton Mearns, who are running 600 ewes. On her first outing, she is a daughter of a 4500gns Auldhouseburn tup which goes back to a 10,000gns Nunnerie sire, and bred from an Allanfauld sired-dam.

Champion Clydesdale was the yearling, Craigview Ella, from Kirsty Donald, Strathaven Road, Sandford. A Dillars Olly daughter, out of Boat Lady Annabelle, she had been previously shown as a foal and is destined for the Royal Highland Show this summer.
