Reduced numbers were forward for the South Devon Performance championships at Beef Expo due to a large number of herds hit with BVD.
It was nevertheless a day to remember for Northumberland-based Robert and Sally Lee, Lumbylaw, when their rising two-year-old bull, Lumbylaw Quintus 8, secured the overall. Their home-bred bull was on his first outing and is a son of the private purchase, Colcharton Brutus and out of Lumbylaw Snowdrop. The couple is set to retire this year and are staging a herd dispersal in July at Exeter following 50 years breeding.
Judge, Mar Thomas, Treguddick, Cornwall, found his reserve in the two-year-old female champion, Enterprise Juin from Scottish breeder, David Irving, Thornhill, Dumfries. She is a daughter of Aurora Storm and out of the dam, Enterprise Jenna VG85, which is backed by home-bred genetics being sired by Enterprise Condor.
