Despite some dreich, damp weather, exhibitors and spectators were out in force for Stirling Show – staged at a new site at Gogar Mains Farm, Menstrie – which attracted one of the biggest line-ups of livestock to date.
Taking all the plaudits and the inter-breed cattle championship for the second week in succession following a win at Gargunnock, was Stewart and Lynsey Bett’s black commercial heifer, Sexy Spice, from Stirling.
This Limousin cross, bred by Llyr Hughes, of the Pabo herd, in Wales, was bought at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair. She is no stranger to the show ring having already won the supreme at the Aberdeen Spring Show, at Thainstone in March, as well as the supreme title at Ayr Show, last month.
In the sheep lines, a Texel gimmer from Archie and John MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth, lifted the inter-breed. She was on her first outing, and is an ET gimmer by Claybury Dunkirk, bred from a ewe by Knock Yardsman. She is destined for next week’s Royal Highland.
It was a day of celebrations in the Clydesdales for Alan Craig and Agnes Jackson, who lifted the overall championship with their yearling filly, Boat Lady Crystal. Having already been reserve overall at this year’s Kilmaurs Show and supreme at Dundonald, she is by Dillars Ollie and out of the home-bred Boat Lady Victoria, which was reserve at the 2018 Royal Suffolk Show.
