AFTER MUCH deliberation, show supreme at Dalry fell to the late Lachlan Quarm's Annick Simmentals, for Annick Desiree’s Joy, a second-calver, by Corskie Callum out of Annick Belle’s Desiree, on her first-ever show outing.

But actually matching the big Simmy cow on the points compiled by all the section judges was Louise Kerr’s prime cattle champion, Trevor, a Limousin cross bullock, bred at Carbello and bought out of Ayr market for £1750, which was previously reserve hook champion at the Ayrshire YFC County Rally.

The matter was finally decided on which animal had received the most ‘perfect 10s’ in the scoring, which edged the glory towards the Annick team, earning it a rake of trophies. Cattle inter-breed judge, Alan Currie, noted afterwards that his own verdict in the beef section had been a similarly close call.

Leading in the sheep competition was the Blackface section champion from J and M Dunlop, of Upper Wellwood – a two-crop ewe, by a £28,000 Auldhouseburn out of a mother by an £11,000 Dyke, on its first show outing.

Topping the dairy section were JR and T Campbell, Low Ballees, West Kilbride, with Lowmalzie Corinthian Wensign, a daughter of Supersire Corinthian, purchased as a freshly calved heifer from Andrew McKay, Broughton Mains, Sorbie.
