A week of celebrations for the British Limousin Society's 50th Anniversary descended on Harrison and Hetherington's Borderway Mart, Carlisle for two days of spectacular commercial and pedigree cattle shows

A cracking show pedigree cattle was topped by the massive stock bull, Upperffrydd Power, a three-year-old that has already claimed championship titles at the Royal Welsh and the Great Yorkshire for his owner Thor Atkinson and the team at Arradfoot, Cumbria.

Their bull, bred by Tomos Evans of the Upperffrydd herd in Powys, was bought at Carlisle in October 2020, for 3000gns. Backed by the best of breeding, he is sired by the 140,000gns Trueman Jagger, which won the last National Show in 2016, and out of the noted Foxhillfarm Joslyn, another top show performer.

Mike and Melanie Alford's Foxhillfarm herd from Devon, also came up with the goods, when their former top show heifer, Naomi, landed the female championship and reserve overall. Now a five-year-old cow and another by Jagger, she is bred from Foxhillfarm Isla which goes back to the prolific brood cow, Bankdale Alice. She landed the championship at the Highland, the Great Yorkshire and the Royal Welsh in 2019.

Flying the flag for Scotland, Deveronvale Razzledazzle, bred by Graham Morrison, Inchbruich, but now owned by Stephen Wilson, landed the blue and white sash amongst the males.

The equivalent amongst the females was won by Craig Ridley's cow, Haltcliffe Romance.

An equally strong show of commercial Limousin cattle the previous day was won by the heifer, Maggie, from North Yorkshire producers, B and L Wilkinson, Ivy Farm, Leyburn. This March 2021-born entry is by Trueman Idol.

Reserve was the steer champion, an April 2021-born entry from Aileen Ritchie, Tamala, Aberdeenshire. It was bred by Kilnstown Farms and is by Goldies Mutual.

Perthshire showman, Wilson Peters, Crieff, won the award for the best pair with Playful Peem and another by Glenrock Inferno that had stood reserve heifer.

And, Lanarkshire's Ian and Moyra Nimmo and son Andrew, Wishaw, won the reserve steer with Maraiscote Sid.
