Winning the Border British Blue Calf Show at Agri-Expo, judged by Herefordshire’s Barney Morgan, was the female champion, Trent Valley Sassy Lassy, a home-bred yearling heifer from Chal Parsons, Slealands, Longtown.

On her first show outing and next heading to the Stars of the Future, Stirling, this one is by the AI sire, Gib Van Het Negenbond, while the dam is the privately-bought Inishfree Imogen White of Morn.

Reserve overall went to the reserve female champion, Top Side Snowy, a home-bred heifer that was reserve breed champion at Cockermouth Show, from Ross and Elaine Pattinson, Temon Farm, Brampton. An AI daughter of Blanc Dos Du Bois, she is out of Top Side Isla, a past female champion at the Royal Highland who is now 10 years old and has had seven calves.

In the males, the champion ticket went to Pendle Special Edition, a yearling bull destined for sale at Carlisle next May, from Mark and Elaine Hartley, Pendle Valley, Lancashire.

He is sired by Almeley Ginola and out of Pendle Heather, a cow that has bred sons to 10,000gns. Ginola was a stock bull at the Greystone herd and the use of him onto Heather was given as a 21st birthday present for the Hartleys’ daughter, Izzy.

The reserve male was another from the Pattinsons – Top Side Too Lucky, a January-born bull calf by Gitan Du Ptit Mayeur, out of Rathlyon Dinah, a cow bought from Ireland in 2010.
