Best at the Northwest Simmental Club’s youngstock show was the 11-month-old heifer, Delfur Nifty, brought out by Garry Patterson at Delfur Farms’ base in Aberlour.

Sired by the 9000gns Ballymoney Larry and out of Delfur Joyful, this heifer won the junior championship, before going on to take the top award. Earlier in the year, she picked up a few first prize tickets through the summer and was reserve breed champion at Grantown Show in August. She now has a busy month ahead of her attending the Stars of the Future at Stirling and then LiveScot at Lanark.

Judge Heather Duff, of Pitmudie, Menmuir, had a tough task deciding the winners from a strong entry. For reserve overall, she went for the senior champion, Springfield Neptune, an 18-month-old bull from Gavin Brown, Springfield, Penicuik. Sired by the bull that was senior champion at the National Show this year, Islavale Jabba, and out of the home-bred Springfield Ivory, Neptune is destined for sale at Stirling in February.

Reserve senior champion was Lindsay and Robert Currie’s Braegarrie Nadia, an 18-month-old heifer from the family’s herd at Pinclanty, Girvan. An AI daughter of Woodhall Ferrari, out of the Teviot Bouncer-sired Braegarrie Julia, she was part of the winning pair at this year’s Scottish National Show.

Reserve junior went to Delfur Farms’ yearling heifer, Delfur Weigela, another Ballymoney Larry daughter, out of a home-bred cow by Auchorachan ACDC. She teamed up with Delfur Joyful to take the best pair award.
