SCOTTISH exhibitors certainly made their presence felt at the Royal Welsh Show down in Builth Wells, when entries born and bred north of the Border went on to secure the supreme cattle inter-breed and reserve supreme sheep titles, as well as many other top tickets throughout the week.
It’s been some year in the show ring for Ian Nimmo’s Limousin heifer, Maraiscote Tangerine, as she backed up her inter-breed honours at the Great Yorkshire and reserve inter-breed at the Royal Highland with the supreme cattle championship in Wales, backing up a successful 2023 show season too. Brought out by Sophie Harvey and judged by Mike Massie of the Elrick herd, this April, 2022-born heifer is by the Irish purchase, Morhan Peter, and out of the Bassingfield Machoman daughter, Maraiscote Orange.
It was a red letter week for the red breed as Tangerine later teamed up with Garrowby Tarzan from the Grahams team headed up by Stewart and Lynsey Bett to take the Fitzhugh pairs championship.
Stewart and Lynsey’s own commercial heifer, Electra, which was bred on Orkney and stood champion at the Highland in June, continued her successful trips south of the Border too, to win the reserve commercial ticket.
Another heifer continuing a successful season was Kevin Watret’s British Blue heifer, Solway View Tamsin, a Boherard Overdose daughter that went one better than her reserve breed title at the Highland and reserve junior inter-breed ticket at the Yorkshire.
Tamsin went on to stand reserve continental junior inter-breed champion. Continuing her winning run from the Great Yorkshire was the Highland heifer, Lady White 144 of Balmoral from the team at Coul Estate which, after being tapped out as champion by Dexter Logan, went on to make the top four in the inter-breed.
Over in the sheep lines there was another Triple Crown winner in the shape of Tiptop Encor from the Jacksons – Ali, Hannah and son, Robbie – which was another to supersede her breed wins at both the Highland and Yorkshire and take the reserve supreme sheep honours too. The-crop ewe is by Tiptop Diablo and out of an imported ewe.
There was further success in the Zwartbles ring too for Hannah when her Topnotch Lasting Light followed on from her Great Yorkshire success to claim the breed championship, with Righead Hottie following her through to stand reserve female.
The Ingram family typically have plenty to celebrate in Builth and this year was no different when their aged ewe backed up her Highland Show win to claim the tri-colour rosette in Wales.
