A GLORIOUS summer day for Braco Show pulled in exhibitors and spectators to see champion of champions judge Mairi Paterson from Crieff select a supreme overall.
Mrs Paterson, a Blackface sheep breeder, made it a memorable day in more ways than one when – without hesitation – she awarded the supreme title to a North Country Cheviot ewe from William Heads’ Greendale flock, Aitkenhead, Fenwick.
The ewe, which was described as an outstanding example of the breed, was bred by local breeder Tom Kerr of the Colony flock who passed away last year. A great supporter of Braco Show, he donated a trophy for the champion Cheviot.
Previously unshown, the ewe was first selected inter-breed sheep by judge Andrew Adam from Newhouse at Glamis. Her pedigree features a Broomhillbank sire and a home-bred Colony ewe.
Wilson Peters’ CC Cindy, a 22-month-old, home-bred Limousin cross heifer, recorded her seventh commercial championship before securing the inter-breed beef championship.
His black heifer from Cuilt Farmhouse, Monzie, Crieff, is by the stock bull Carmorn Lionbar and out of a British Blue cross cow.
Champion heavy horse was the Clydesdale lead from Robert Sibbald, Thorn Farm, Dollar. His yearling filly Shielhill Lady Elizabeth, by Thorn Union Jack and out of Shielhill Silver Star, was on her first outing.
Also out for the supreme overall was the goat champion, Brucklay Ocean, a pygmy goatling from Claire Bailey, The Blackwater, Bridge of Cally.
