Mark Bryson and Calum Gray take the top prize at Lanark

Judge Jessica Miller of the Kedar Brown Swiss herd, judged both the showmanship and the calf classes and found her supreme show person in the senior winner, Mark Bryson (19).

Reserve was Matthew Gray (10) while the honourable mention was awarded to Ruth Allison (11).

Jessica certainly had her work cut out for her among the calves, with 11 class winners forward for overall championship, and five drawn forward for her short leet.

Supreme was Drointon Royal Virtue shown by Calum Gray. This October 2023-born heifer, sired by Blondin J Crown Royal, out of Drointon Artisan Virtue Red, was placed at UK Dairy Expo, Ayr and the Royal Highland Show, and now heads to Holstein Scotland South Show on September 1.

Keeping it in the family, father David won the reserve and honourable mention. His runner up was Grayridge Royal Pammy, a five-month-old heifer also by Blondin J Crown Royal, but bred from Willsbro Sidekick Pammy.

Standing behind her to take the honourable mention was Overside Grayridge Dynasty Diamond.

With just three Red and White calves, supreme went to the senior heifer Grangehall Attico Loralie Red, from brothers Andrew and Euan Lawrie. Their October-born entry is by Gen-I-Beq Attico Red and out of Aliann Rager Loralie.

Reserve from Gillian Weatherup’s Pinupgirl herd, based at Parkend and led by niece Ruth Allison, was the five-month-old Pinupgirl Say So Red, a daughter of Vox Say Red, out of Pinupgirl Jordy Shore Red, a previous winner.

Winner of the Tam Allan Perpetual Trophy for the highest placed junior member based on stockjudging and showmanship competitions over the year was Jake Smith, Greentowers.
