Despite the rain it wasn’t a damp day for Duncan Semple, Dippen who took the overall champions of champions at Campbeltown with a spring-born Limousin cross calf on her show debut.
The March-born heifer outshone the other inter-breed winners when she was given the most votes by the various section judges. She is bred from a Limousin cross cow and is bound for the UA Stirling sale at the end of September.
Supreme dairy champion was Kilkeddan Aces Layla 2, a fourth calved Holstein cow from Gavin Semple, Kilkeddan. Sired by Ardemia Alta Aces, this Ex90-classified entry calved in April and is currently giving 45kg per day.
Supreme sheep was a young Blackface ewe from Robert and Iain Shaw at Acharonich, Lochgilphead. Their home-bred one-crop is sired by the Peeler and out of a dam by a £2400 Pole.
John McLatchie’s Moy Rose took the top prize in the Clydesdale section. A yearling filly, she is a daughter of Moy Majestic Mary out of Tulloes Top Maverick.
