Lanarkshire dairy farmers, Robert and Lorraine Hunter and son Mark, have again come out tops to win the majority of the Jersey production competitions in the 2022-2023 milk recording year.

Their 180-cow Clydevalley herd at West Tarbrax managed by Mark, currently boasts a herd average of 7943litres at 6.18%BF and 3.98%P, and was presented with five of the nine competition trophies at last week's Jersey Cattle Society agm at Mains of Boquhan.

The Hunter family won the Raylands Trophy for the highest kilograms of butterfat and protein in a CM qualified lactation with Clydevalley Tequila Gorgeous ET when she gave 11,1044kg in her second at 7.48%BF and 4.69%P, and combined 1355kg. Notably, their Clifton Aussiegold Samantha and Clydevalley Genominator Gail, came second and third in the section.

Clifton Aussiegold Samantha, bred by S and DC Bland but owned by the Hunters, took the Beauty's Trophy for the highest kilograms of butterfat from a cow passing 50,000kgs of milk in the recording year. Her milk yield after five lactations totalled 55,969kg with 4252kg of BF.

More impressive, the family's cows took the top seven placings for the highest kilograms of butterfat and protein in three consecutive CM lactations and scooped the Wheldeon Memorial Trophy with Clifton Aussiegold Samantha when she produced 3918kg in lactations three to five.

Thurlstone Governor Fay, bred by John and Susan Dickinson, but owned by the Hunter family was awarded the Grosvenor Berry Memorial Trophy for having the highest components in six consecutive lactations have produced 5844kg between her second and seventh.

Adding to the Clydevalley celebrations, the silverware for the highest lifetime yield of butterfat and protein was won by the Hunter's home-bred Clydevalley Rocket Flora 2 which produced a phenomenal combined 10,331kg in nine lactations.

At the 141st agm, Kathy Le Brun, stepped up as chair of the Jersey Cattle Society with Robert Hunter of the Clydevalley herd and Douglas Hume, Juniper, re-elected as directors alongside Philip Arrell, Sweetpea and Scot McGill, Kerricks.
