Ian and Andrew Nimmo, Bogside, Newmains, continued on their winning ways to secure another champion of champions rosette with a Limousin heifer at a busy Peebles Show.
Their May 2023-born heifer, Maraiscote Urprincess, was first crowned breed leader at the Limousin Grand Prix, before being selected supreme overall.
Alistair Cormack comments on his National Limousin champion at Peebles Show from Ian and Andrew Nimmo
The heifer is sired by Morhan Peter and out of Maraiscote Nellie. A big show winner, she was junior inter-breed champion and reserve breed champion at the Great Yorkshire and reserve junior at the Highland this year.
“She is a well produced animal, she walks well and shows great breed character throughout,” said champions of champions judge, Ronnie Black.
It was the traditional Bluefaced Leicester from Alan McClymont and sons Sam and Oli, Kirkstead, Yarrow, that got the tap out for the reserve overall. This was the two-shear ram, R1 Espley, purchased from Michael and Nicky Gray for £23,000 as a ram lamb after standing pre-sale champion at Carlisle. Runner up in the sheep lines was the MV accredited Texel champion from Fletcher Renwick, Legars, Kelso. His home-bred gimmer is a daughter of the £28,000 Haymount Foremost and out of a Sportsmans Cannon Ball-bred ewe. She also took the reserve inter-breed at the Border Union Show.
Taking the blue and white sash in the cattle was the seven-year-old in-calf Charolais cow, Ladygill Naughtybutnice from Jemma Forrest, Roberton. A daughter of Ladygill Hennesay, she is out of Edenhurst Jenny.
