Little Miss Dynamite went down a bomb at Chapelton Show, when she was selected champion of champions by master judge Billy Glazebrook, Laigh Crewburn, Strathaven.
The nine-month-old Limousin cross heifer calf from first time exhibitor, Ross Montgomerie, Assloss, Kilmarnock is sired by Glenrock Inferno.
Mr Glazebrook found his reserve in the ridden pony – Cadfachrhydian, from Chloe Smith, Lanark, which first won the veteran and mountain and moorland ridden classes.
The Holstein Dalserf Chief Clara 3, from Jimmie Baillie, and sons James and Gavin, Dalserf, topped the dairy section.
Leading up the beef section was the seven-year-old British Blue stock bull, and previous winner, Springfield Mason from Robert and Jane Hamilton.
David Padkin and Gary Whyte judged the inter-breed sheep championship and found their supreme in the native winner, a Suffolk ram lamb from Andrew Currie, Haughhead, Hamilton. This was Strathbogie Sean, purchased at Lanark last month from Jim Innes.
Reserve amongst the sheep was the continental champion, a Blue Texel shearling ram from – Robert and Jane Hamilton.
Taking the silverware for the best overall ewe lamb was a Texel from Alan Jamieson, Sauchenhall, Kirkintilloch.

Holstein Friesian (Judge: A Lawrie, Grangehall, Pettinain). Champion – JD Baillie, Dalserf, Ashgill with the previously unshown Dalserf Chief Clara 3 Ex91. She is sired by Stantons Chief, out of Dalserf Clara 14 and was paraded giving 55litres per day having calved five months previous. Reserve – Boyd Farming, Lettrickhills, Cambuslang with Lettrickhills Casper Rose which was paraded giving 60litres per day having calved early July. She is by Claynook Casper out of Lettrickhills Paradise Rose. Reserve at East Kilbride. Calf born after Jan 1, yearling heifer, heifer 12-24 months, bred maiden pair – D Gray, Dilmun, East Kilbride. Prime cattle (Judge: A Lindsay, Kepscaith, Whitburn). Champion and champion of champions – R Montgomerie, Assloss, Kilmarnock with Little Miss Dynamite, a 9.5-month-old Limousin cross home-bred heifer that was placed at the Royal Highland Show. Sired by Glenrock Inferno and out of a British Blue cross cow from Messrs Hyslop, Netherton that was a former Ayrshire Young Farmers Rally heifer. Reserve – T Holloway, Crawlaw, Galston with the black British Blue cross heifer, Calypso. Sired by the pedigree champion, Springfield Mason, she is out of a Limousin cross cow. Champion – R and J Hamilton, Mid Shawtonhill, Chapelton with the seven-year-old British Blue bull, Springfield Mason, sired by Ballygrange Alex, he is out of the Empire D’Ochain-sired Springfield Goldie. Champion here in 2022 and 2023. Reserve – R and J Hamilton with a March-born ET Limousin heifer calf by Elite Lacette out of Gunnerfleet Noliny. All classes – R and J Hamilton.
Prime sheep (Judge: G Whyte, West Campbell Street, Newmilns). Champion – J Hamilton, Mid Shawtonhill with three ET Blue Texel ewe lamb sisters sired by the continental champion, Carsaig Hilux. Reserve – A Jamieson, Sauchenhall, Kirkintilloch with March-born Texel lambs by Allanfauld Flamoyant, a son of the 26,000gns Seaford Egyptian Warrior. Three Texel cross lambs – A Jamieson. Three Suffolk cross lambs – WW and M Cuthbertson, Bents, Chapelton. Three any other breed lambs – J Hamilton.
Continental (Judge: D Padkin, Muirhouse View, Auchenheath). Champion and reserve inter-breed sheep – R and J Hamilton with the Blue Texel shearling Carsaig Hilux, an ET purchased ram lamb from F and H MacNicol at Carlisle. Sired by the 10,000gns Matt’s Gypsy King, he is out of Ettrick Erina, a daughter of Pistyll Dynamite. Reserve – J and J Graham, Mains of Burnbank, Blair Drummond with the Blue Texel gimmer, Joyfield Her Majesty bred by Neil Millar. Also sired by the 10,000gns Matt’s Gypsy King, and out of Pistyll Elite daughter Saltire Blue Flo Jo. She was second at the Royal Highland Show and the Great Yorkshire Show. Texel (Judge: D Padkin). Champion – E and C Leggate, Boghead, Limekilnburn with a home-bred gimmer from the Darngaber flock. Sired by Knockem Fastrac and out of a 2021-born Humeston ewe sired by the 4000gns Bellefield Double Dutch. Aged ram, shearling – WM Boyd, Dechmont, Cambuslang. Ram lamb – R Hamilton and Sons, High Crewburn, Strathaven. Ewe lamb, inter-breed ewe lamb – A Jamieson. Gimmer – E and C Leggate. Ewe – R and J Hamilton.
Beltex (Judge: D Padkin). Champion and reserve – J Hamilton. Champion was Mid Shawtonhill Jane, a gimmer by the 9000gns Clary Fly-Boy, bred from Shawtonhill Dottie. Champion of champions here last year, she was inter-breed sheep at East Kilbride, reserve at Newmilns and first at Biggar this year. Reserve was an ET ewe lamb that is a full ET sister to Mid Shawtonhill King Pin. The lamb is sired by the £5000 privately purchased Lurg Juno which stood champion at Newmilns and is owned in partnership with Howcommon. The dam Mid Shawtonhill Easy, was also the dam of the 2800gns Mid Shawtonhill Gangster sold in 2022. Aged ram, ram lamb, ewe lamb, gimmer, ewe – R and J Hamilton. Cross-bred (Judge: G Whyte). Champion – A Jamieson with a home-bred black ram lamb born at the end of March. Sired by the Texel Strawfrank Bonjovi, he is out of a Zwartbles cross Texel bred ewe. Reserve – A Walker, High Parks, Hamilton with a Texel cross aged ewe that was purchased at Lanark in 2022 as a gimmer from Messrs Minto, Townhead. Tup – A Jamieson. Ewe lamb – G and H Laughton, East Shawtonhill, Chapelton. Gimmer, mixed pairs – WW and M Cuthbertson. Ewe lamb – A Walker.
Blackface (Judge: G Whyte). Champion and reserve – G and S Donald, Windhill, Sandford. Champion was a home-bred gimmer by a £1000 Craigdarroch on her first outing of 2024. She won the ewe lamb class at the Royal Highland Show last year. Her dam is sired by the £12,000 Elmscleugh. Reserve was a ram lamb, also by the £1000 Craigdarroch. Second at the Royal Highland. All classes – G and S Donald.
Clydesdales (Judge: JM Steel, Jackton, East Kilbride). Champion – W and J Dunbar, Bothwellshields Road, Newhouse with Doura Sorrento, a three-year-old filly, sired by Doura Magic Touch, she is out of Collessie Flash Girl, and was purchased from Charlotte Young. Reserve – A Jackson and A Craig, Covington Mill, Thankerton with the yearling filly, Boat Lady Roberta, sired by Dillars Ollie, she is out of West Glen Rambling Rose. Reserve champion here last year; first at the Royal Highland and the Great Yorkshire 2024. Mare – W and J Dunbar. One/two-year-old filly – A Jackson and A Craig. One/two-year-old colt – R Hamilton, Dillars, Lesmahagow.
