More than 240 sheep entries coupled with some dry summer weather, ensured a good day out for exhibitors and spectators at Westruther
Overall judge, James Pate, Marvingston, Gifford, found his supreme in the Bluefaced Leicester champion from Bill Hedley, Corsbie. This gimmer has already had a successful show season, securing four breed championships, two sheep inter-breeds and a reserve overall at local shows.
Pipped at the post after winning the supreme for the past two years in succession, was a Blackface ewe from the firm of WH Sharp and Son, Longcroft, Lauder, shown by Peter Lothian. She is by a £20,000 Happrew.
A new group championship was won by a trio of park-type Cheviots from J and A Pate, Nettlingflat.

Cheviot Mule (Judge: W Thomson, Hownam Grange). Champion – Glenogle Livestock with a gimmer. Reserve – Glenogle Livestock with a ewe lamb. Gimmer, ewe lamb – Glenogle Livestock.
Texel (Judge: K O’Connor, Lanark) Champion – E Runciman, Huntington with a shearling. Reserve – J and P Anderson, Headshaw with a gimmer. Ram and ram lamb – E Runciman. Ewe, gimmer, ewe lamb and group – J and P Anderson.
Multi-breeds (Judge: K O’Connor). Champion – E Runciman, Huntington with a Charollais cross Texel cross Beltex ewe. Reserve – J and A Pate, Nettlingflat with a Suffolk gimmer.
