Dairy Person

We are looking to expand our current committed dairy team by adding an additional member. A positive mental attitude and some experience is required.

Milking – Our cows are milked on a purpose built greenfield site, where we started milking in 2010. The Modern Fixed equipment at the dairy includes a 70 point rotary parlour with ACR and autoid. Cows are milked twice daily. Please see the video link below

Cows – Our cows are a homebred mix of New Zealand and Irish Genetics. All dairy bred females are genotyped at birth and their progress monitored in partnership with two other local dairy businesses. This allows us to us to identify the best genetics to progress our herd. We currently use sexed semen and have used embryo transfers to intensify genetic progress.
We are currently milking 800 cows and expect by 2022, our milking herd will exceed 1000 cows.
The role also includes responsibility for recording and administering vet treatments, and stock handling. Foot trimming and A.I qualifications would be advantageous. However, training could be provided for the appropriate candidates.

System – We are a seasonal block calving system with cows calving in February, March and early April. Cows are grazed at grass and grass quality and allocation are critical to the performance of our system. Training will be provided as we have a strong focus on grass based KPI’s which are monitored and reviewed weekly and provide an excellent learning resource.

People – Our current dedicated dairy team is made up of 5 dedicated team members. This team works along side the other 9 estate staff.
The chosen candidate will be experienced at lone working but comfortable working in a team whilst capable of a large variety of tasks.

Machinery – The successful applicant will have tractor driving experience, and will be expected to be able to drive a tractor and other farm machinery to check stock, bed, feed, muck out and assist with other farm tasks.

Land -We continue to improve grazing land for our cattle. Every improved hec is GPS soil tested and all applications are based around these results. Our aim is to improve grass yields per hec and grazing utilisation. Hence the ongoing drainage, reseeding, water systems, roading and fencing projects carried out by the dairy and estate teams.

Accommodation - We are fortunate to have 2 recently refurbished houses, if required, to suit most applicant’s circumstances. Both properties are on farm and on a school bus pick up route to local excellent schools.

Remuneration commensurate with experience. Closing Date 08.01.2021.

Applications including a full employment history and the contact details of two suitable references can be emailed to charlie.russell@glenapp.co.uk
