Scottish Texel sheep breeders made their presence felt at the Blessinton Premier breed sale in Ireland, forking out the top bid of €17,000 for the champion and €4300 for the lead female.
Selling at this price was Greenstar Alfie, a ram lamb by Tophill Wallstreet, from Chaylee and Lorinne Green of the Greenstar flock from Co Donegal which sold in a three-way split to Robbie Wilson, Milnbank, Turriff; Jim Innes, Strathbogie, Huntly and Paul and Baillie O'Connor, of the Drumgooland flock, Seaforde, Co Down. She is out of a Forkins-bred ewe by Uber Cool.
The Greenes also received €5700 for a full sister to the champion, purchased by Rodney McLaughlin, Clara Texels.
Pre-sale judge, John Mellin, Hullhouse, found his reserve male in a grand-son of Wallstreet, by Knock Yazoo, from Anthony Donelly. He made €4800 to McHugh Bros, Donegal.
Donald Macpherson of the Hexel flock from Castlehills, Berwick upon Tweed, bought the lead priced female at €4300. This was a gimmer by Duncryne Uber Cool, from Flor Ryan of Ryan Texels.
Pedigree rams cleared at varying prices ranging between €350 to €17,000, with a 82% clearance rate. Females sold from €420 to €4200 with a 69% clearance.
