For the second year in succession, a Beltex gimmer from Andrew Baillie's Callacrag flock from Carstairs, attracted the lead price at a show and sale at LiveScot, Lanark.

His sale leader, the substitute entry, Callacrag Babe ET, which stood pre-sale champion, is a full sister to the 10,000gns Callacrag Bull's Eye sold at Carlisle; the Biggar Show champion and the reserve overall at the National Show this year. A daughter of the 10,000gns Quarrymount William Wallace ET, bred from the Clary Prankster-sired Callacrag Style, she was knocked down to Northern Ireland breeder, Kenny Preston, Tarcur Road, Omagh – the buyer of Mr Baillie's sale leader here last year. Babe sold in lamb to Broxty Bruiser, a 3600gns purchase at Carlisle and a full brother to the 25,000gns Broxty Boxer.

The 100-ewe Callacrag flock also received 900gns for another gimmer by William Wallace and again, served to Bruiser. The buyer was Graeme Allan, Westmains, Stonehouse, Larkhall.

Mr Allan also gave the final 1300gns bid for Tommy and Alfie Taylor's gimmer, Heatheryhall Bessie, from Thankerton, Biggar. Another by William Wallace, she sold served to Skiddawiew Boggle.

William Wallace was behind the reserve winner from the Taylors too, when Heatheryhall Brenda, a gimmer also served to Boggle, made 750gns to J and J Bunting, Balgray House, Lockerbie.

Ewe lambs peaked at 520gns for Beachy Cosmic Flower ET, from John Barclay, Mid Brockloch, Maybole. She is by the 10,000gns Kingledores Battleaxe and sold to J Callan, Ryelandside, Strathaven.
