A show gimmer from George and Harry Wilkinson's Arkle and Ellen Valley flocks, proved the star attraction at the Twilight Texel sale at Carlisle, selling for the top price of 10,000gns.

The gimmer, a daughter of the 11,000gns Milnbank Vantastic, bought in 2014, is bred from a ewe by Brackenridge Underdog – the 4500gns Lanark purchase that bred the 32,000gns Arkle Ying Yang, sold last year.

Champion at Cumberland, Cockermouth and Penrith Shows, she sold carrying a single to the 16,000gns Cornmore Ace, to Carl Bellis, buying for his Cosyn flock from Brynford, Hollywell, Wales.

The duo who run 350 Texel ewes at Arkleby, Aspatria, Cumbria, also received 1800gns for an ET sister to the 20,000gns Arkle You Bet. She is by Halbeath VIP, while her dam, by Finevalley Triple Crown, is a maternal sister to the 5000gns gimmer sold here last year. This entry, which also sold due to Ace, was purchased by HE Havard, Cwm Brynich, Sennybridge, Brecon.

Matching that price was a substitute entry from the Wilkinsons, purchased by Longtown sheep auctioneer, Archie Hamilton, buying for his Smyllum flock from Lanark. She is also by Milnbank Vantastic, but bred from a ewe by Kiltarrif Stig.

Second top price was 3500gns paid for the second lot in the catalogue from Robert Osborne's Durisdeer flock from Thornhill, Dumfriesshire. This was a gimmer by the 5000gns Procters US President, a shared tup bought at Carlisle in 2014, bred from a home-bred ewe by the privately purchased Loosebeare Super Scot. Caroline Orr who runs the Halbeath flock in partnership with her father Robin, at Halbeath, Dunferline, forked out the cash for this entry due with a pair to Bradleys Agent Steel, by Halbeath VIP.

Financing that transaction, Halbeath sold two at 1800gns, with the first, by Cambwell Trademark, selling due to Halbeath VIP to Orkney breeder, IW Slater, Swanbister, Orphir.

The second, a daughter of Halbeath VIP, changed hands in lamb to Peacehay Ya Belter, to Esmor Evans, Monfa, Mold, Clwyd.

Mr Evans was also the last man in on the Quick brothers' lead Loosebeare gimmer from Devon at 2800gns. This was a daughter of Strawfrank Wild Thing – a ram that sired the inter-breed champion ewe at Devon County Show this year – bred from a ewe by Hull House Special Brew. She sold scanned in lamb to Brijon You're The Boy.

Loosebeare's second gimmer, by Halbeath VIP, and due to Loosebeare Boomer, made 2000gns to C Fielder, Duttons Manor, Timsbury Romsey, Hamps.

Top price for Peter Woof's Stainton flock from Penrith was 1800gns paid for his pen leader, purchased by S Beachell, Beswick, Driffield, Yorkshire. She is by the Anglezarke Uno son, Stainton Wasdale and sold due to Knock Yankee.
