At Huntly, United Auctions sold 911 hoggs to average 272.5p per kg, having sold to a top of 307p per kg for a 42kg Beltex from 52 Conval Street, Dufftown and to £143 for 52kg Beltex from 18 Richmond Gardens, Rhynie.

Cast sheep reached £210 for a Texel ewe from Auchanland, Cornhill.

Dumfries

A select number of hoggs forward for C and D Auction Marts' sale sold to 310p per kg for Texels from Craigielands Hill and Dalmakethar, or to £164 per head for the same breed from Tinwald Shaws.

An SQQ of 295.3p was achieved.

A Texel also topped the cast trade at £170 for a ram from Dunarroch.

Penrith

Some 5723 sheep comprising 2940 hoggs and 2783 cast sheep were forward for Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart's opening sale of 2024.

Hoggs averaged £132.50 or 296p per kg with an SQQ of 308p, having sold to 388p for a single 40kg Beltex from Messrs Holliday and Graham, Bolton Wood Lane Farm, Wigton.

The top price per head was £170 paid for a single 68kg Texel hogg from JG and RW Nevinson and Son, High House Farm.

Two Texel ewes from AJ and LJ Haston, Dearham Hall, topped the cast sheep at £300.

Thainstone

Limousins secured the top prices per kg at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 59 clean cattle where 12 bullocks sold to 299p for a 720kg entry from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer, and 27 heifers peaked at 324p for a 585kg animal from Stoneyhill, Keith-hall.

The top price per head was £2185.95 for an 885kg Charolais cross bullock from Daies, Wardhouse, with heifers reaching £20967.60 for a 690kg Limousin from West Knock, Mintlaw.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 271.6p and 300.4p respectively with 16 young bulls at 254.9p having sold to 304p per kg twice – for a 670kg Limousin from Shannas, Clola, and a 740kg Limousin from Drumforber, Laurencekirk which sold for the lead price per head of £2249.60.

The sale of 193 cows and bulls averaged £1488.26 or 193p per kg with 97 finished beef cows levelling at £1631.39 and 89 feeding cows at £1329.78. The top price was £2280 for an 862kg Limousin cross from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer.

The five bulls sold for £2190 for an 1120kg Limousin from Stoneyhill, Keith-hall, to level at £1664.

Old season lambs (1663) averaged 273p having sold to 335.7p per kg and £164.50 for 49kg Texels from Uppermill, Tarves. The SQQ up to 45.5kg (653) was 280.8p per kg.

Feeding ewes and rams (711) averaged £78.37 with a top price of £255 paid for a Texel ram from Cairnbo, Gamrie.

Darlington

Darlington Farmers Auction Mart had 224 cattle, 2390 sheep, and 24 pigs at their weekly sale where 86 prime bulls sold for 335p for a 663kg Aberdeen-Angus cross Limousin from J Layfield, Nackshivan, Willington or £2946 from AC Simpson and Son, Witton-le-Wear.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 291p and 316p respectively with the latter selling to 360p twice from B Walker, Birch Springs, and JV and JA Hodgson, The Grange, with Limousin crosses. The Grange produced the lead price per head at £2168.

Steers peaked at 328p from AF Hall, Redcar House, Sedgefield with a 686kg Limousin or £2393 for a 777kg entry of the same cross from WR Thompson, Sloshes Farm, Etherley.

Stirling

Some 7409 prime sheep including 5594 hoggs were sold through United Auctions, to an average of 274.47p per kg.

The top price was £169 for Texels from Carse of Trowan or 359.0p per kg for Beltex from Groan.

The remaining 1815 ewes and rams were also topped by Texels from Carse of Trowan at £272 with a ewe and £170 with a ram.

Longtown

Beltex hoggs topps C and D Auction Marts' sale of 5544 prime hoggs which sold for £176 from TV and M Storey, Tinnishall, Canonbie, or 361p per kg from D and C Rodger, Comlongun Mains Cottage, Clarencefield.

The overall average was 280.0p with an SQQ of 280.2p

The 5104 ewes reached £305 for a pure Texel from M and L Sinton, Harlaw Side with rams to £170 for more Texels from Beoch Farmers, Beoch, Stranraer and Smallburn Farms, Mayne Farm, Elgin.

Ayr

On Monday, Craig Wilson sold 1695 hoggs to a top of £156 per head for a pair of Texels from John Young and Sons, Castle Mains, or 322p per kg for three Beltex from Knockterra Farms to average 271.4p or £118.

The 649 cast sheep reached £226 for Texel ewes from A Meikle, Helentongate while rams sold to £155 for a Texel from K Wilson, Yonderfield Cottage.

On Tuesday, 12 heifers averaged 307.67p or £1801.14 having sold to 323p for a Limousin from North Boig

Cast bulls sold to £1900 for a Limousin from Clauchlands, with cows peaking at £1700 for a Herefored from £1700 Bowfield.

St Boswells

Clean bullocks and heifers averaged 312p and 300 per per kg at Harrison and Hetherington's sale on Monday which included 89 cast cows, 1546 hoggs, and 666 cast sheep

The 15 bullocks sold for 332p from Crosshall, or £2191.20 from Upper Nisbet with 107 heifers peaking at 346p from Bee Edge or £2277.40 from Greenknowe.

Cast cattle sold to £2186 from Kerseknowe or 237p from Sunlawshill, and twice from Dunslaw to average 189p per kg. Four cast bulls averaged 180p per kg having sold to 189p and £2050.14 from Woodhouse and Allanshaws respectively.

Hoggs averaged 275p per kg having sold to 333p for Beltex from Newton of Crathie, or £178 for Suffolk crosses from Sunnycroft.

Heavy ewes averaged £124 with light ewes at £78, with a top price of £200 paid for three Texels from W Arnott and Co, Butterdean.

A Texel from Crailing Nook topped the rams at £141.

Lanark

Limousins topped most sections at Lawrie and Symington's sale of 28 clean bullocks and heifers which included 45 cast cows; 3007 hoggs and 972 cast sheep.

Heifers sold for 350p per kg from DM Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, and to £1925 from the same home.

Entries from D and E Lochart, Fauldingcleugh, Lockerbie, topped the bullocks at 316p with a Limousin or to £1858 for a British Blue.

Beef cows sold for £1750 from A Mitchell, Newton of Wiston Farm, Wiston or to 228p/kg from Carmichael Home Farm, Carmichael.

Entries from A Barr, Harelaw, Lanark, and A and M Dalling, Westertoun, Strathaven, led the dairy entries at £1290 and 164p per kg respectively.

Suffolk crosses from T and R Harper, Southmains, Biggar, led the hogg trade at £167 per head. The top price per kg was 320p for Beltex from A Taylor, Heatheryhall, Lanark and for Texels from R and M Struthers, Collielaw, Carluke. The overall average was 275p per kg.

Texel ewes from JW Gibb, Toftcombs, Biggar, topped the cast sheep at £242, while rams sold for £160 for a Texel from Burnetland.

Carlisle

An 846kg Limousin bull from Messrs Hutton, Setmabanning, Keswick, topped Harrison and Hetherington's prime cattle sale on Monday when selling for £2432.25.

The 86 bulls sold for 314.5p per kg for a Limousin from High Green Hill.

The 53 steers and heifers were also led by Limousins, with the former peaking at £2301.89 for an 867kg entry from Messrs Muir, Cleughbrae, Dumfries, or £1860.83 for a 645kg heifer from Messrs Steel, Steeley Farm, Bishop Auckland.

Top prices per kg were 311.5p for a steer from Kelbarrow or 304.5p for a heifer from Steeley Farm.

Edward Dean, Kirkhouse Farm, led the entry of 354 cast cows with an 857kg Limousin selling for 235.5p per kg or £1994. Dairy entries peaked at 257.5p or £1810 from Messrs Elliot, Askrigg Hall.

Bulls peaked at £2470 for a 1290kg Simmental from Messrs Houldey, Kirtleton House, or 215.5p for a Limousin from High Old Sheilds.

Prime hoggs averaged 290p with an SQQ of 294p per kg. The top price was £180 from George Robinson, Pelutho Park, or 400p for four Texel cross lambs from Messrs Wilson, Meadow Farm.

Ewes hit a top of £168 for a Beltex from Messrs Shirvinton, Woodbank Farm while rams reached £178 for a Leicester from Turnings.

Dingwall

Five clean cattle were sold through Dingwall and Highland Marts where bullocks sold for 286.0p per kg or £2044.90 for a 715kg Limousin cross from Shore Croft, Culbokie.

Heifers reached 279.0p for a 500kg Aberdeen Angus cross from East Murkle, Thurso, or £2033.85 gross for a 745kg Simmental cross from Shore Croft.

The sale of prime sheep saw 195 hoggs average 264.1p per kg having sold to 287.0p for 45kg Texel crosses from Upper Ardnagrask, Muir of Ord, and £141 for 61kg Mules from Blackford, Inverness.

Feeding sheep (92) reached £172 for a Texel cross ewe from Swordale Farm, Bonar Bridge.

Castle Douglas

AT Wallets Marts on Tuesday, 2279 prime hoggs averaged 274.65p with a top price of 313.5p paid for Texels from Messrs Graham, Irelandton, or £170 for heavy Texels from Messrs Clement, Borgue House.

A Suffolk ram from Barwhillanty Estate led the cast trade at £183 with Texels from AM Lynch, Overlaw Dairy, topped the ewes at £181.

Kirkby Stephen

Prime hoggs averaged 300.26p per kg with an SQQ of 306.24p at Harrison and Hetherington's sale on Tuesday evening.

The sale of 2812 hoggs which included more than 800 horned and Mules sold to £184 for a 56kg Dutch Texel cross from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside, or 435.9p per kg for a pen of four 39kg Beltex crosses from Messrs Phillips, Fir Tree Farm, Harrogate.

Cast sheep peaked at £268 for a Texel ewe from Messrs Raine, Stanhope Gate Farm, Barnard Castle, with rams to £150 for a Beltex from Barnskew.
