Prices peaked at 15,000ns at a joint dispersal of four pedigree Limousin herds at Carlisle, for a six-year-old French-bred cow from Mark and Helen Lewis' Redland herd from Northlands Farm, Wetherby, Yorkshire.

The sale, which included the sale of the autumn/winter calving portion from Jimmy and Donald MacGregor's Dyke herd from Milton of Campsie, saw the French cow, Gazelle, a Volcain daughter, lead the trade, selling to Hadfield Wood Recyclers, Lumm Farm, Little Moss, Droylton.

Bred from the Chatelus herd, Gazelle, which is out of the Uranium daughter, Civelle, sold with June-born heifer calf, Redland Novalty, by Eldorado, and served again to the same sire.

Lanarkshire breeders, Barrie Farmers, Howburn, Elsrickle, Biggar, went to the combined price of 6800gns for the five-year-old cow, Redland Helga, also by Eldorado, and her eight-month-old bull calf, Redland Merlin, by the French sire, Heron. Helga, which made 3200gns, while her calf made 3600gns, is bred from the Goldes Valmet daughter, Redland Daimante, and sold served again to Heron.

Heron, a five-year-old stock-bull bought as a calf at the KBS sale in Buvre in 2013, also made the grade, selling for 5100gns to PJ Dale, Mirey Leys Farm, Denby, Ripley, Derbyshire. He is by Diego LEG and out of Bussy, by Titus.

Selling across the water to Northern Ireland, S Williamson, Benburb, Co Tyrone, went to 4500gns for Redland Imogen, a calved heifer by Eldorado, out of Redland Erica, by Goldies Valmet. She changed hands with May-born heifer calf at foot by Heron, and again served to Heron.

Leading Steadman and Judy Dodd's Redrock dispersal from West View, Temple Sowerby, Penrith, with a 10,200gns combined sale for a cow and calf, was Redrock Jill and her 10-month-old heifer calf, Magic, both of which were purchased by Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith. Jill, a calved heifer by Frewstown Brilliant, out of Redrock Enid, by Haltcliffe BMW, sold served to Shaws Jimmy, for 6000gns while her calf, by the French sire, Japelou, relised 4200gns.

Minutes later, Redrock Jazzylady, a similarly aged heifer by the same sire, out of the Redrock Baron daughter, Redrock Goldenlady and served to Jimmy, made 5800gns to MA Harryman, Swainsea Barn, Pickering, North Yorkshire. Her 10-month-old bull calf, Redrock Mallard, by Shaws Jimmy realised 5000gns to Gary Bell, Haas Side, Lockerbie.

A cow and heifer calf outfit also topped Alan Irving's Castlenook dispersal selling at 4800gns to C Cropper, Mill House Farm, Long Preston, North Yorkshire. This was paid for Castlenook Hermione, a second calver by Haltcliffe Braveheart, with Castlenook Marjorie, an Elite Forever Brill-sired eight-month-old calf. Hermoine sold served to Loosebeare Fantastic.

Jimmy and Donald MacGregor's Dyke females also sold well and to a top of 6000gns for the 10-month-old bull calf, Dyke Mandela, by the Fieldson Alfy son, Dyke Gandalf. He was purchased by GD Pickering, Thackside, Goathland, Whitby, while his dam, Dyke Flower, a seven-year-old by Cappaduff Aaron, made 3000gns to David Thomlinson, Park View, Scaleby, Carlisle.

Another by Gandalf, Dyke Jemima, a three-year-old out of the Ryedale Paragon-sired Dyke Beatrice, made 5800gns to EL W and CA Johnston, Horsemoor Hills, Uldale, Wigton. She changed hands in calf to Netherhall Gilbert and with nine-month-old bull calf at foot by Gilbert

Selling north up to Keith with JA Morrison, New Track, Crossroads, Dyke Hyena and her November-born calf, Dyke Mink, made 4800gns. Hyena, a five-year-old by Cloughhead Delboy is out of Ronick Tigress and sold in calf to Guards Boomer. Mink is another by Gandalf.

Minutes later, Alistair Macnab, Kildun Cottage, Dingwall, went to 4500gns for Dyke Ina, a four-year-old by Drumduff Champ, out of Dyke Davina and in calf to Netherhall Gilbert. Included in this transaction was her nine-month-old heifer calf, Dyke Minnie, by Gilbert.
