A packed ringside of prospective purchasers was forward for Arthur and Janet Whitlow's young stock dispersal sale from the award winning Arnot herd of pedigree Holsteins at Lancaster Auction Mart, on Monday, where prices peaked at 4400gns for a bulling heifer.

The herd which was awarded Master Breeder in 2012 and best herd in the Lancashire Herds Competition four times in 2007, 2009, 2014 and 2015, was led by Arnot Carlina 270 an ET heifer by De-Su 11914 Hilliard, and a grand-daughter of the Ex95-5 SPLP90 cow, Carlina 130 Ex95-5 (10 years) SP LP90. She sold served to DG Charnley and with AI Interest to Wyenalley Dairy Genetics, Hereford.

Her maternal sister, Arnot Carlina 296, by Seagull-Bay MJ Solaris, led the maiden heifer section at 3700gns selling to STA Richards, Penhill Farm, Dyfed. She boasts figures of GTPI of +2244 and also sold with AI interest.

One of the youngest calves, Arnot Carlina 302, a five-month-old heifer by EDG Rubicon, also sold with AI Iinterest, for 3600gns to A McBurney, Craig Fad Farm.

Also travelling home on the same lorry load to Craig Fad was the top priced bull at 3300gns. This was Arnot Crafeeti, by Ladys-Manor RD Grafeeti and out of Carlina 158.

In-calf heifers peaked at 3300gns for Arnot Carlina 258, by Larcrest Commander, which sold due in November sexed to Seagull Bay MJ Solaris to join the herd of Middle Shorrock Farm owned by RM Lucas.

Averages: 31 bulling heifers, £1340.85; 24 in-calf heifers, £2003.40; 32 maiden heifers, £1601.25.
