Three generations of the Prentice family dairy farming at Cally Mains, came to an end at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, when the herd from Gatehouse of Fleet, was dispersed.
A sound trade throughout, saw no fewer than 58 animals sell for £1800 or more with the milking herd averaging £1560, from a lead bid of 2250gns.
Milking heifers averaged £1629, with a freshly calved topped the sale at 2250gns. Sired by Pen-Col Drumbeat and giving 26kgs, having calved in July, she was purchased by J and J Clark Valley Field Farm, Kirkcudbright.
The highest yielding heifer, by Coopon Showtime and bred from a Feikjes Blackstar dam with two lactations over 11,000kgs, made 2200gns to C Dent Bridge End Farm, Kirkby Thore.
Dry and late lactation cows were the best trade of the day, selling to 2100gns for a daughter of Coldsprings Gabe due in October with her second. The buyer was J Gatherer, Hill of Ochiltree, Cumnock.
Cows were topped at 2200gns for a freshly calved cow in her second, by Ernespie Elite giving 45kgs. She was bought by J and M Prentice Blackwood Farm, Cumnock.
Another freshly calved second calver, by B Coopon Rooster, made 2100gns to JJ Taylor High Whinnow Farm, Wigton.
Averages: 114 cows in milk, £1512.82; 79 heifers in milk, £1629.43; 54 in-calf and recently served heifers, £1497.22; 51 bulling heifers, £830.73; 61 heifer calves, £544.10.
