A Texel from Roger and Ivanna Strawbridge’s Tamnamoney flock topped the Northern Stars in-lamb female sale staged at Ballymena Livestock Market, when selling for 11,000gns.

The event which included quality females from Alan and Hugh Blackwood, Auldhouseburn; Richard Henderson, Ballynahone; Alastair and Jack Gault Forkins and Cherryvale; Mark Priestley, Seaforde; Roger and Ivanna Strawbridge, Tamnamoney and Lynbrooke and a guest consignment from Michael Smyth Foyleview, was supported with on-line bidding and saw a 100% clearance.

Sale leader was an ET gimmer by Sportsmans Dare Devil, bred from a Procters Cocktail-sired dam. From the same family as the 8000gns Tamnamoney Dodger, she sold due to the 100,000gns Strathbogie Gypsy King, a tup that also stood reserve champion at the Royal Highland Show and champion at the breed sale at Lanark. Final bidders were Alan and Hugh Blackwood of the Auldhouseburn flock at Muirkirk, Ayrshire.

Her sister, another gimmer made 2400gns selling to Robert Cockburn of the Knap flock from Errol, Perth. She sold due with twins to Douganhill Gangster.

Matching that 2400gns bid when selling to D Doherty, Donegal was another Tamnamoney gimmer by Dare Devil. She is bred from a Duncryne Uber Cool dam that has produced sons to 7500gns and changed hands due with twins to Douganhill Gangster.

Tamnamoney averaged £2004.54 for 11 with the Strawbridge’s Lynbrooke flock levelling at £669.37 for four.

Top price for the Blackwood’s Auldhouseburn consignment was 6800gns paid by John Sherratt, Wem, Shropshire. His purchase is sired by the 100,000gns Auldhouseburn Expression and bred from a 9500gns Sportsmans ewe by Garngour Alabama. She sold due to the private purchase, Hope Valley Golden Balls.

Her full sister, in lamb to the 5000gns Lylehill GTR, made 6200gns when selling to Ashley Dickson, Omagh.

Just behind, on 6500gns was another Auldhouseburn gimmer by Expression bred from Mr Blackwood’s favourite ewe, a 15,000gns Knock female, and maternal sister to last year’s 26,000gns gimmer. She sold in lamb with twins to the 90,000gns Hilltop Goliath to S and J McCollam of the Carmavy flock Crumlin. Auldhouseburn sold 12 to average £4025.

Alastair Gault’s Forkins top runner, a Castlecairn Doodlebug daughter bred from a Clarks Bolt dam, made 3000gns. Placed second at the NI National Show and an ET sister to Frankel, this gimmer sold carrying twins to Strathbogie Gypsy King. She joins Leonard Linton’s Bregagh flock, Armoy. Forkins sold 16 at £945.46.

Top price for Mark Priestley’s Seaforde flock was 2500gns paid for a daughter of New View Electrifying, in lamb to Auldhouseburn Gazza. Her dam is the 5000gns Knap female that bred the 7000gns GI Joe. Charlie Boden of the Sportsmans and Mellor Vale flocks, Stockport, was the final bidder on this entry which changed hands with an embryo. Seaforde sold five at £1323.

Richard Henderson’s Ballynahone flock peaked at 1800gns for a Rhaeadr Edge daughter in lamb with a single to Douganhill Gangster, purchased by local breeder Neil McIlwaine, Co Tyrone.

Mr Henderson sold 19 at £762.63.
