Borderway Mart, Carlisle was packed to the brim for a joint dispersal of pedigree Texels and Beltex which peaked at 45,000gns for a ewe from the Usk Vale flock of Welsh breeders, Will Davies, and Paul Rowlands, Llandrindod Wells.

The sale which included the dispersal of Tony Moores’ Procters Farm flocks of Texels and Beltex managed by Jeff and Jennifer Aiken, Moss House Farm, Lancashire, was led by a 2021-born ET ewe from the Welsh business partners.

Their Cowal-bred ewe stole the show and was one of five from the Usk Vale flock that sold at five-figure prices. Bred from a Cowal ewe by Knap Alligator and from the Springwell female line that is breeding well at Knap and Ettrick, she is a full sister to the retained sire at Cowal, Excalibur, and Cowal Escobar which sold jointly to Cambwell and Boghouse. She sold with embryos collected from her, to Alan and Sarah Powell of Monnow Hill Texels, Ross on Wye, Herefordshire.

The same buyers went to 10,000gns for the first flush ewe in the catalogue from Usk Vale. This was a 2019-born Hexel-bred ewe that is a full sister to the top breeding sire, Hexel Born To Be Wild. Bred from a Lawn female by Duncryne Uber Cool bought at Irish Premier sale in 2017 for €4200 and sired by Plasucha All Star, she also sold with embryos retained. The ewe has already bred gimmers to 3500gns at the Select Seven Sale at Lanark.

John Forsyth, Glenside, Maybole, bought the lead priced ewe lamb at 12,000gns – a daughter of the 100,000gns Glenside Forever bred from a Clarks ewe by Procters Chumba Wumba. The dam is a full sister to Teiglum Exocet and goes back to Craftsman and Alabama.

Two other Usk Vale females sold at 10,000gns to include a second ewe lamb by Glenside Forever, purchased by Northern Ireland breeder, Jonny Cubitt, buying for Long Mountain flock from Ballymena. She is also bred from the same family as the 45,000gns ewe with her dam being another Cowal ewe by Hexel Django.

The reserve champion at the Royal Welsh Show in 2022, a 2021-born Knock-bred ewe matched that 10,000gns bid when selling to Charlie Boden of the Sportsmans flock from Stockport. Her pedigree features Knock Dalwhinnie and a Knock Ewe by Allanfauld Am The Man.

Another from the same stable made 7000gns selling to the Wight family, Midlock, Crawford. This was a 2018 Knock ewe that is a maternal sister to Knock Yardsman and other females that have bred gimmers to 20,000gns. Sired by Allanfauld Am The Man and bred from a Knock ewe by Sportsmans Supreme, she sold in lamb to Hexel Geronimo.

Tony Moores’ Procters Farm consignment was led by a 9000gns bid for the Beltex gimmer, Procters Hayley ET. Female champion and reserve overall at the Penrith Progeny Show, Hayley is a result of a flush from the Clary Desperado daughter, Procters Fancy Pants ET, and sired by Faughhill Francisco. She sold in lamb to Collessie Jacobite to Charlie Boden, buying for the family’s Sportsman's flock from Stockport.

Top priced Texel from Procters at 7000gns was an ET gimmer bred from Procters Cinderella, a Sportsman Batman daughter that was inter-breed champion at Royal Welsh in 2019 as a ewe lamb and bred the 80,000gns Procters El Presidente. The gimmer, by Bradley Eubank, sold with embryos collected and due to Seaforde Game Changer, to Ryan Greene, Culdaff, Co Donegal, Ireland.

A gimmer by Scrogtonhead Class Act made 5500gns to Spiros Spyrou, Hebdon Bridge, West Yorkshire. She sold carrying a single to Greenhall Fisticuffs.

Just behind, on 5000gns, Donald McPherson bought a 2021-bred Procters ewe by Sportsmans Double Diamond for the Hexel flock from Berwick upon Tweed. She sold due to Hexel Four Square.

Other Beltex from Procters sold to 5000gns twice. First was Procters First Lady ET, a 2020-born ewe by Tiree Carter due to Collessie Jacobite. She headed home with Gordon and David Gray, Sunnycroft, Selkirk.

Robert Cockburn, Hill of Errol, Errol, bought the second, Procters Humbug ET, a gimmer by Faughhill Francisco, bred from Procters Eighties Girl.
