A multi-breed show and sale of pedigree sheep at Junction 36 was topped at 1800gns by the champion Beltex from Aberdeenshire breeder, Stuart Wood.

The sale, which included the North West Texel Breeders’ Club show and sale of females and a smaller show of Badger Face Texels, was led by Mr Wood’s pre-sale Beltex champion, Woodies Happy Girl, a gimmer which sold carrying twin lambs to Swffryd Eyecatcher to Kirkby Stephen-based Hannah Pedley.

Mr Wood also topped the Badger Face Texels at 850gns with a ewe hogg purchased by M Prince, Darley Road, Stonedge, Ashover.

The second top price amongst the Beltex was 750gns paid for an in-lamb gimmer from Andrew Morton, Lochend, Denny, which sold to B Cowton, Tow-Law, Bishop Auckland. The sale of 104 pedigree Texel females peaked at 1600gns for the champion from Keith and Roy Campbell’s Cowal flock.

Judge Harry Griffies of the Cairngryffe flock, found his supreme in a gimmer by Sportsmans Express, which he later bought. She sold carrying a pair of lambs to Milnbank Freddie II.

The reserve, a gimmer from Gordon and David Gray’s Ettrick flock from Sunnycroft, Selkirk, made 1500gns when selling to C Fielder, Timsbury, Romsey. Her sire is New View Electrifying and she changed hands carrying twin lambs to Clarks Gray Goose.

Ettrick also sold another two gimmers at 1400gns to Spear Fir Farming, Leeds, and David Morrison, Dalwyne, Barr, respectively.

Charlie Boden and family’s Sportsmans’ flock from Stockport, Cheshire, also had a good day with two gimmers selling at 1400gns to Spear Fir and Eamonn Vaughan, Partridge Nest.

Texel ewe hoggs reached 950gns from L Smith and J Huddart, purchased by AL Mounsey, Arkleby, Aspatria, Cumbria.
