Texel gimmers from Charlie Boden and the family’s Sportsman's flock from Stockport, Cheshire, proved the star attraction at the Longtown Ladies sale, securing both the top price of 4000gns and the pre-sale championship.

Their sale leader is by Proctors El Presidente, bred from a ewe by Rhaeadr Best of the Best and sold due to the 100,000gns Knap General Lee. The final bidder was Perthshire breeder, Robert Cockburn of the Knap flock, Hill of Errol, who was buying back some of his own genetics.

Sportsmans’ pre-sale champion was another by the same sire but bred from a Deveronvale Ace of Diamonds female. She made 2200gns to the pre-sale judges, James and Ellie Amphlett of the Topwood flock from Leominster, when in lamb to the 170,000gns Knap Grumpy.

Alan and Hugh Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, Muirkirk, saw two of their gimmers make 1600gns to Donegal purchasers.

The first, a daughter of Auldhouseburn Expression was purchased by A Mackey, Dunkineely, with the second, by Seaforde Empire King, selling to Michael Gallagher, Corcreggan.

Matching that 1600gns bid, was the third prize gimmer from Robert Cockburn’s Knap flock, purchased by Andrew Hambelton, Merkland, Thornhill, Dumfriesshire. She is by New View Electrifying.

Just behind, on 1500gns, Keith and Roy Campbell of the Cowal flock sold a gimmer to D and M Scott, Redesmouth, Bellingham.

Ewe hoggs peaked at 3200gns for the reserve champion from Danny Hair’s Drumbreddan flock from Stranraer, purchased by Gordon and David Gray of the Ettrick flock, Sunnycroft, Selkirk. She is by Haymount First Class, with others by the same home from Drumbreddan making 2000gns, to Kenny Pratt’s Hilltop flock, Peterculter, and 1500gns to Messrs Mosey, Gilling East, North Yorkshire.

The sale included Texel dispersals from the Lintalee flock of Maurice Hardy-Bishop and June Scott’s Wallace flock which saw top prices of 600gns paid twice for in-lamb ewes.

Suffolk ewes sold to 700gns from Ali Jackson’s Tiptop flock with Dutch Spotted in-lamb gimmers to 1300gns and 1100gns from Louise Linton, Whitcastle, Corrie, Lockerbie.
