Prices peaked at £1800 on two occasions at a show and sale of individual Swaledale females at Kirkby Stephen.

First at this price was the second prize ewe hogg from DJ Coates, Tetheran, purchased by GS Coates, 7 Brough Meadows. She is sired by the home-bred Butt Rigg Gary 1.

Matching that money was a one-crop ewe scanned with twins to Bents Gorgeous. Consigned by D Humble, Cowshill, she sold to J Tully, Burncroft Farm, Barnard Castle who also went to £1400 for the third prize ewe, a 2021-born entry scanned with triplet lambs from MC and AE Staley, Poppin Cottage.

The Brogden family – Stanley and Pat and son Thomas – claimed the top two awards at the pre-sale show. The champion from the Brogdens of Hillandale was the first prize ewe a daughter of Bull and Cave Jackpot, carrying twin lambs. She made £850 selling to T Bousfield, Brough.

Thomas scooped the reserve honours with the first prize ewe hogg, by the Stevie Clarkson tup, Swalehead Powerhouse. She was knocked down at £1000 to S Taylor, Ellerbeck Cottage.
